Naruto

Naruto is a Japanese anime that was made by Pierrot that aired from 2002 to 2007. The English dub is licensed in America by VIZ Media and broadcast by Cartoon Network, which was censored due to the network's content guidelines in order to get a TV-PG rating as a result. Violence was toned down, and some TV-Y7-FV is shown on episode 1.

4. When Naruto uses his "Sexy Jutsu" (named "Seducing Technique") to transform himself into a naked woman, the scene was recolored with a yellowish tint. In the original version, the pictures were in full color.
5. When Iruka is hit at the back by Mizuki's weapon, he loses blood from his nose as he becomes white, which falls on Naruto's face under him. In the Italian version, the blood was recolored dark brown to mask it better.

1. When Kakashi asks his disciples what they like and what they do not like, Naruto's line where he says he hates more "the 3 minutes where he waits the ramen to be ready" was omitted.
2. In the scene where Sasuke says he wants to revive his clan and "killing who I know" and Naruto thinks "Couldn't be me?" was changed with Sasuke talking only about his clan, without stating his purposes of revenge, with Naruto thinking "What a determinated guy!".

3. The scene where after the above-mentioned dialogue, where Sasuke tells Naruto that he absolutely must not die was cut.

• Episode 17

1. During the scene where Haku speaks about his past, the word "death" was completely excised, making him in the dub getting around said concept. .

• Episode 18

1. This entire episode, which one of the most dramatic fights, was aired entirely edited with a black-and-white filter, to hide the blood.
2. Scenes of pain or where blood could be prominently seen were completely cut.

• Episode 19

1. Such as in the previous episodes, even at the end of the fight against Haku and Zabuza, some scenes showing pain or blood were cut or recoloured.
2. In the scene where Zabuza kills Gato, which in the original version he decapitates him in a single and precise strike with a kunai clenched between his teeth. In the Italian version, he simply strikes Gato various times. The scene was also recoloured as well.
3. The words "kill" and "death" were cut.

• Episode 20

1. When Sakura hits Naruto with a punch, the scene where the latter falls backwards with blood coming out from his nose was cut.
2. During the scene where Konohamaru mocks Sakura, in the original he does a wisecrack about her being very tall, but in the Italian version, he calls her a "hag".

• Episode 23

1. The scene where Maito hits Rock Lee was recolored with a black-and-white filter. This practice where the characters and the blood splatters, but not the surrounding background has been nicknamed "zombie effect" by the Italian anime website Il Bazar di Mari,

• Episode 28

1. During the scene where Sasuke strikes his enemy, the blood was recolored black.
2. Some scenes during Orochimaru's attack on Sasuke and Sakura were cut, while the others were edited with the black-and-white filter.

• Episode 29

1. The blood was recolored.
2. The dialogue where in the original version Sasuke says he wants to kill his brother was changed to him wanting to defeat his brother.

• Episode 30

1. The scene in blood comes out from the wound on Sasuke's neck when Orochimaru bites it was cut.
2. When the scene in which the Sound Ninjas say that they had "the order to try to kill Sasuke", their dialogue was changed to make them say that they "had the order to try to defeat Sasuke".

• Episode 31

1. When Neji talks to Ino, the dialogue where he says that he does not want to "defeat and take the scroll from opponents weaker than him" was altered to him saying to not wanting to fight "to not risk losing the scroll against such weak opponents".

• Episode 32

1. The scene in which Dosu hits Lee, the blood splatter was colored black.
2. In the scene where Zaku strikes Sakura, wounding her, is recolored with a negative filter. This also affects the scene in which Sakura counterattacks with Ino coming to help her later.

• Episode 33

1. During Sasuke's nightmare, his child self, who in the original version scolds his present self for "not doing anything to prevent his parents from dying", which was changed in the dub to him telling Sasuke that he was "too frail".
2. When Sasuke speaks, his dialogue about wanting revenge and killing a certain person who took everything away from him, was cut.
3. When Sakura stops Sasuke from killing Zaku, while he gives her the scroll, his dialogue "This is the sign of my gratefulness, but, should we meet us again we'll not get away from the battle." was changed to "Next time we'll meet again, you'll have all my respect".
4. The scenes in which the dead bodies of Sasuke's parents can be seen during his nightmare, some scenes were either cut or had the blood blackened.

• Episode 34

1. Gaara's dialogue, which is cruel and more fear-striking in the original, was toned down.
2. When Gaara speaks to Kankuro, the line where he says that "I never considered myself as part of the family" was changed as "I never considered you as part of the family".

• Episode 36

1. The blood splatter was removed from Kabuto after the scene in which he was hit on the face.

• Episode 37

1. Kiba's dialogue where he says he is "afraid of the Sand Ninjas" was changed inexplicably to him being "afraid of the Sound Ninjas".

• Episode 39

1. During the Sasuke's execution of the Lion Combo, the scene was recoloured to mask the blood.
2. Later, when Gai thinks again about the incidente, the scene was edited with a greenish hue to cover the blood (even if it is few) lost by Yoroi.
3. The scene of Sasuke spitting blood when he is being overwhelmed by Orochimaru's seal was cut.

• Episode 40

1. Orochimaru's dialogue, in which he says that the Sound Ninjas inscribed to the Chunin Exam were "expendable pawns who could even die" as he did not care about them was changed into him saying that said Sound Ninjas were "scraps" of which he did not care about.

• Epsiode 41

1. The dialogue in which Tenten tells that Sakura and Ino were not taking things seriously because "they were friends" was changed to her saying that they ere "soft".
2. Naruto's line where he asks why Sakura and Ino behave in a strange manner and Kakashi thinks that actually even he does that with Sasuke and both rivals are linked by complicated relationships was changed to Naruto asking why Sakura and Ino were "wasting time with pleasantries" and Kakashi thinking that even him and Sasuke "were exchanging some slushes" every time they see eachother.

• Episode 42

1. The scene in which Sakura and Ino bleed from their mouths was cut.
2. When their forehead protectors fall at the ground with some drops of blood, the scene was recoloured in black and white.

• Episodio 45

1. Some scenes of Kiba hitting Naruto were completely cut.
2. The rest of the scenes of Kibba hitting Naruto was left, but recolored in two ways. Some had the blood recolored brown to look like as if Naruto was losing mud from his wounds. In others, the blood was recolored black and Naruto's skin was edited to look pale in the scene.
3. When Kiba hits Naruto, the scene was edited with a black-and-white negative filter.

• Episode 46

1. Blood was recolored black.

• Episode 47

1. Some frames of Hinata with blood near her mouth were cut. In the remaining frames, the scenes were either covered with a reddish hue or had the blood recolored black or brown.
2. The scene of Neji hitting Hinata was edited with a black-and-white negative filter.
3. In the final scene where Naruto, after taking Hinata's blood from the ground and pointing it to Neji, promising to defeat him, the blood was recolored to a darker brown.

• Epsiode 48

1. At the start of the episode, when a servant cleans Hinata's blood from the ground, the blood was recolored dark brown.

• Episode 49

1. In the flashback, where Gai hits Rock Lee, the black and white negative effect was applied to the scene.
2. The dialog where both Kakashi and Gai say that Rock Lee risks to die with the Reverse Lotus technique, the word "die" was replaced with "destroy himself".

• Episode 50

1. Some sequences showing the bleeding wounds of Rock Lee were cut.

• Episode 52

1. Naruto calling Ebisu a "closet pervert" was changed to having the former called "deranged" ,"strange", "spectacled"
2. The scene where Jiraiya gets attacked by Ebisu for peeking at the women's bathroom was changed to having Jiraiya "laughing at the back of who was training".
3. The scene of some women bathing (even if they were covered by steam) was cut

• Episode 53

1. Every scene of Jiraiya's fantasies was cut.
2. The entire scene of Naruto's transformation with the Sexy Jutsu was cut and many dialogue was changed
3. The word "pervert" was replaced by "half-witted"
4. From this episode onward, every next episode preview was cut.

• Epsiode 54

1. The scene in which Naruto uses the Sexy Jutsu was cut rather than having the usual yellow tint.
2. The scene in which Hayate's body is seen on the ground is cut.
3. Naruto's blood was darkened
4. Naruto calling Jiraiya "perverted hermit" was changed to the former calling the latter "Don Juan master".

• Episode 55

1. The scene where Orochimaru is seen biting Sasuke was slightly censored. both in episode 30 and in Sakura's flashback, it cannot be seen where Orochimaru leaves Sasuke's neck with the blood dripping from the former's teeth: in the Italian dub, the scene was slowed down and skipped directly to the application of the cursed mark on Sasuke's neck.
2. The encounter between the Sand Ninjas, which in the original version had just the background music and the characters could not be heard, was changed to having them discussing about the banality of being a ninja.

• Episode 56

1. The scene of Jiraiya peeking behind a bush some swimsuit-clad girls having a bath in a lake was cut. Curiously, a similar scene in the Episode 54 was left.

• Episode 58

1. Two scenes from Gaara's flashback were cut: one showing a dead body (one of Gaara's victims) and the bloodstained face of a person.
2. The scene of flashback showing Yashamaru, Gaara's uncle, followed by Gaara shedding tears, which happens twice (when Gaara enters inside Lee's room and eventually, with Gai's intervention), which showed that Gaara had feelings, was not shown fully both times, rendering not clear why in the Italian dub Gaara was shown crying.
3. The word "kill" was replaced in dialogue with "eliminate"
4. When Gaara speaks about himself as a "monster, said word was replaced by "phantom".

• Episode 61

1. The scenes where Naruto loses blood were cut with a still of the scene preceding these.

• Episode 63

1. When Kankuro enters in the arena, while in the original he says that he does not care about the fight against Shino, the dub changed to make the former say that he does not want to give up his fight.

• Episode 64

1. When Kankuro yells to Temari before she notices Shikamaru's trap, his "Temari, up there!" was changed to "Temari, wake up!".

• Episode 66

1. Gaara's dialogue (said character was more tormented and evil) was toned down.
2. The blood dripping from Sasuke's face and leg while he tries to break Gaara's Shield of Sand was not shown, covering them by simple still shots of his wounds.
3. In the remaining scenes, the blood was darkened.

• Episode 67

1. When Gaara is hit by Sasuke, the drop of blood falling on his hand was not shown (but the sound can still be heard).
2. Some scenes showing a wounded Gaara, after he was freed from his Shield of Sand, were cut and replaced by a top view of the arena, removing two intense close shots of Gaara's eyes.

• Episode 68

1. The scene showing a Sand Ninja hit by some kunai was cut.
2. The scene showing Orochimaru's blood in the ground after he wounded his hand was cut.
3. The scenes of a Leaf Ninja on lookout duty being hit were edited with the black-and-white filter to cover Orochimaru's blood.

• Episode 69

1. A scene in which Kakashi wounds his finger to use the Summoning Jutsu was cut. However, Kakashi's cut finger was still shown.

• Episode 70

1. The line in which Shikamaru says that he is "the laziest of the group and more specialized in escapes" was changed with him saying that he is "the one with more brains in the group, and the only who can deal with the enemies".
2. During Asuma's intervention in Shimakaru's rescue, the black-and-white filter was applied to cover some blood drops.

Where to find it uncensored

Adult Swim aired an uncensored version, and the Japanese version and physical video releases are uncensored.
