Mobile Suit Gundam Wing

Mobile Suit Gundam Wing is a Japanese anime television series that was produced by Sunrise as part of the Gundam franchise. The anime premiered in Japan on April 7, 1995, ending on March 29, 1996. The English dub had its premiere on Cartoon Network in the United States on March 6, 2000. However, due to network standards, it was censored for daytime broadcasts. Violence, bloodshed, profanity, and any references about killing or death were removed from the show.

Italian censorship

• Most of the Mobile Suits have their names either changed or translated in the Italian dub. To cite a few, Wing Gundam becomes "Ala di Fuoco" ("Firewing"), Deathscythe and Gundam Deathscythe Hell become "Raggio Letale" ("Lethal Beam"), Gundam Sandrock and Gundam Sandrock Kai become "Distruttore" ("Destroyer"), Gundam Heavyarms becomes "Sentinella" ("Sentinel"), Gundam Shenlong and Gundam Altron become "Ninja" (which applies also to the "Nataku" nickname Chang Wufei gives to his Mobile Suits). Tallgeese becomes "Pioggia di Fuoco" ("Fire Shower"), Tallgeese II becomes "Incursore" ("Incursor"), Wing Gundam Zero becomes "Uccello di Fuoco" ("Firebird") and Gundam Epyon becomes "Navigatore" ("Navigator").
• Most of the characters retain their names, except Quatre Raberba Winner, who becomes "Rareba Winner" and Zechs Marquise becomes "Zack Marquis". Treize Kushrenada retained his name, but pronounced differently. Chang Wufei is always referred as "Chang" (as if it was his first name), rather than "Wufei".
• Usually, references to death and violence were toned down, though during the anime's first airing on Italia 1 in 2001, the scene where the men of the Romefeller Foundation shoot at Lady Une's arm was kept.

Where to find it uncensored

The original Japanese version and the DVD/Blu-Ray home videos are completely uncensored. The uncut version also aired during Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block.
